Normcore: is uncool the new cool?

What is Normcore? Is it really "the next big fashion movement"? Some say that it is anti-fashion, a synonymous of "uncool", a "stupid hipster trend", a new boring cool or unstylish people who dress with unfashionable clothes. Others welcome the idea and see it as a new way of being that "prioritizes self-identification over differentiation". But, what is it about? Let's clear up any doubts!

NORMCORE: ¿VESTIR 'UNCOOL' ESTÁ DE MODA? ¿Qué significa Normcore? ¿Es el nuevo gran movimiento de la moda? Para algunos es la anti-moda, sinónimo de algo pasado de moda, una tendencia hipster estúpida, un nuevo cool aburrido o gente poco estilosa que viste con ropa ordinaria. Sin embargo, otros dan la bienvenida a la idea y la ven cómo una nueva forma de ser que "prioriza la identificación propia sobre la diferenciación". Pero, ¿de qué se trata? ¡Salgamos de dudas!

The digital agency Mediarun made an infographic of the Best Actress winners dresses' since 1929. Here's what Paul North, the head of content and strategy at Mediarun, said in the SEO agency blog: "Other than the pleasure of looking at the dresses and remembering them from the occasion (depending on your age), it is interesting to see how styles change over the decades." Indeed, it is a must-see poster. Red carpet apart, hope Leonardo DiCaprio will finally win best actor award...  

La agencia digital Mediarun ha creado una infografía de los vestidos de las ganadoras a mejor actriz desde 1929. Paul North, el jefe de contenidos y estrategia de Mediarun, dijo en el blog de la agencia: "Además del placer de ver los vestidos y recordarlos de los Oscars (dependiendo de vuestra edad), es interesante observar cómo los estilos cambian a lo largo de las décadas". Desde luego que, este póster es un must-see. Dejando de lado la alfombra roja, esperemos que Leonardo DiCaprio gane el premio a mejor actor...

The must-have sneaker for this 2014 is the legendary Stan Smith. Adidas relaunches its classic all-white trainers, that bring the name of the 1970s American tennis star, who is 67 now. The brand stopped stocking the shoes by 2012. Now, with some variations on the original Adidas's, the iconic sport shoe is back and it's having a fantastic fashion moment.

Fact is, they are considered one of the best-selling trainers ever with over 40 million pairs sold. Marc Jacobs and Phoebe Philo are already their fans and many fashionistas wear them. Take a look at some inspiration on how to wear your Stans.

Smart Shopping Barcelona: fashion meets mobile technology

Next Thursday 27th of February 2014 Las Arenas shopping mall and Creu Coberta stores will host the Smart Shopping Barcelona (SSBCN). From 8 pm until 1 am, you'll be able to live the largest celebration of Mobile World Congress (MWC) and a very special shopping night, which coincides with the end of the Mobile. 

El jueves 27 de febrero se celebrará la Smart Shopping Barcelona (SSBCN) en el centro comercial Las Arenas y el eje comercial Creu Coberta. De las 20 h hasta la 1 h, los asistentes podrán vivir la gran fiesta del Mobile World Congress (MWC) y una shopping night muy especial, coincidiendo con la clausura del Mobile.

Stores will surprise us with different shopping experiences thanks to mobile phones through the application WShopping Ar (available on iOs and Android). You will also see some restaurant menus through your smartphone. In addition, there will be tastings, discounts, performances, disco music, flash mobs and many activities to encourage all. The most touristic spaces such as Gaudí's Casa Batlló will incorporate augmented reality contents too. There is something that worries me and it is that the people from the fashion world dress up more and more. And there are less and less people with style, don’t you think? The most extravagant is the main protagonist. The one who wears the most daring look is the coolest. Those who dress with the flashiest clothes are the most fashionable. However, all this reminds me of the short tale The Emperor’s New Clothes by Hans Christian Andersen. To me they are fashion victims.

EL CARNAVAL DE LA MODA. Hay algo que me inquieta y es que la gente del mundo de la moda cada vez se disfraza más. Y cada vez hay menos gente con estilo, ¿no creéis? El más extravagante es el más protagonista. El que lleva el look más rompedor es el más guay. El que viste más llamativo es el más fashion. No obstante, a mí todo esto me recuerda al cuento de El traje nuevo del emperador de Hans Christian Andersen. Es decir, para mí son víctimas de la moda.

Delpozo is a must-see for many fashion lovers -including me. The creative director of the firm, the Catalan designer Josep Font, was inspired by the work of the Italian painter Duilio Barnabè, disciple of Piccasso, and the retro futuristic novel of the 70's Logan's Run for his autumn/winter 2014-15 collection.

El director creativo de la firma, el diseñador catalán Josep Font, se inspiró en el trabajo del pintor italiano Duilio Barnabè, discípulo de Picasso, y en la novela estadounidense retro futurista de los años 70 Logan's Run (La fuga de Logan) para su colección otoño/invierno 2014-15.

Victoria Beckham demonstrated that her designer skills are more and more consolidated. The designer presented a more feminine aesthetic in her autumn/winter 2014-15 collection. She keeps working in sobriety and a sophisticated minimalism, although this time she experiments with romanticism and surprises us with arty prints, gold chain details and flat shoes, for example brogues. Winter whites, cashmere coats and looks in black and red. The collection fits in the wardrobe of the perfect modern woman.

Victoria Beckham demuestra que su faceta como diseñadora está cada día más consolidada. La diseñadora presenta una estética más femenina en su colección otoño/invierno 2014-15. Sigue apostando por la sobriedad y un minimalismo sofisticado, aunque esta vez experimenta con el romanticismo y sorprende con estampados artísticos, cadenas doradas como adorno y calzado plano. Por ejemplo, vemos los típicos zapatos masculinos de cordón o brogues. Blancos invernales, abrigos de cachemir y atuendos en rojo y negro. La colección encaja con el armario de la perfecta mujer moderna.

This month, our favourite fashion magazine cover is starred by Emma Watson. The British actress appears on two covers for the February-March issue of Wonderland magazine. But, like if it was not enough for her, she also guest edits the issue. We preferred this one in which she wears a silver crown and Dolce & Gabbana. However, we must say that we also loved the outstanding Lena Dunham's Vogue US cover. See some of the best fashion magazine covers from this February 2014.

Este mes nuestra portada favorita está protagonizada por Emma Watson. La actriz británica es la estrella de dos portadas del número febrero-marzo de la revista Wonderland. Y como si fuera poco para ella, también es su editora invitada. Nosotras nos quedamos con esta portada, en la que lleva una corona y va vestida de Dolce & Gabbana.
