Last weekend kicked off the Bcn Ethical Fashion Fest, a festival dedicated to ethical and sustainable fashion, organized by the Association for Sustainable Fashion Barcelona (MSBCN). An event in which I had the pleasure to be part of the communication and organizing team. Despite the fact that I hardly could see the fashion shows, I can explain you the event in first person.

The Arts Santa Mònica, located right in the centre of Barcelona, worked as the perfect place to gather designers, shops and brands that bet on sustainable clothing, which is respectful with the planet and with the people who produce it. For two days, they presented their creations to the public with unique discounts and drew exclusive presents for the attendees who took a picture at the photocall.

On Saturday we saw the creations of the participants in two different fashions shows –the first one, dedicated to multibrand shops and accessories; and the second one, of designers and local brands- and in-between, Carmen Doorá was the one to put the soundtrack with a flamenco accent to the festival. Everyone wanted to see their collections on the catwalk, so on a moment in the afternoon the capacity of the building became small and we had to regulate the entrance creating queues. Luckily, the wait was short and everybody could enjoy the festival.

The following day there were talks about sustainable fashion. Elena Salcedo –who I could meet in person finally- presented her book Moda ética para un futuro sostenible (meaning: Ethical fashion for a sustainable future) (Ed. Gustavo Gili) –which I could acquire and bring signed home-. Next, it was the turn of the sponsors. The CEO of Organic Cotton Colours, Santi Mallorquí, talked about his brand, which cultivates organic cotton; and Saeunn Kjartansdóttir, from the communication team of Skunfunk, explained the evolution of the brand towards sustainability.
