'The colors of Chanel': why black and white?

The colors of Chanel. That's the title of the latest chapter of the maison, which explains in three minutes why black and white are the signature of Chanel. Plus, why beige, gold and red are also emblematic colors. The video belongs to a series of original short films 'Inside Chanel' that recount Coco Chanel's life and the French firm's history. LOS COLORES DE CHANEL. Así se llama el nuevo capítulo de la maison, que explica en tres minutos por qué el negro y el blanco son sus colores predilectos y por qué el beige, el dorado y el rojo también son colores emblemáticos. Art Nouveau fashion at 'XII Fira Modernista' in Terrassa

The city of Terrassa, located near Barcelona (Spain) dressed in 1890/1910 last weekend to celebrate the 12th edition of the Fira Modernista (Art Nouveau Fair). The Catalan movement took the streets and the inhabitants of the city showed their modernist dresses. Women wore embellished pieces with embroidered details and with flower-adorned hats, while men looked smart dressed in dark suits and top hats.    

La ciudad de Terrassa se ha vestido de 1890/1910 este fin de semana con motivo de la celebración de la duodécima edición de la Fira Modernista. El Modernismo ha invadido sus calles y los egarenses más atrevidos las han recorrido ataviados con vestidos de época. Ellas han lucido trajes adornados con bordados, encaje, con el cuello y puños decorados con puntas, y sombreros con flores. Y ellos muy elegantes se han vestido con americana y pantalón y con sombrero de copa alta.  

'Pieces from yesterday and from today' at the Documentation Centre and Textile Museum of Terrassa

The Fashion Journalist blog has visited the exhibition "Retalls d'ahir i d'avui" (Pieces from yesterday and from today) of the Documentation Centre and Textile Museum of Terrassa (CDMT), located near Barcelona. The exhibit collects pieces that belong to the museum's archives from distant eras and cultures such as fragments of the "El Terno de San Valero" and other pieces that offer a retrospective look to the industrial textile heritage with a special emphasis on Catalan Modernist textiles.

The highlights: a gorgeous 18th Century dress of silk ottoman fabric, a beautiful dress in silk jacquard and a black tulle body by Charles Frederick Worth, considered the father of haute couture. These are some of the interesting pieces we can see in the exhibition.

The Fashion Journalist ha visitado la exposición “Retalls d’ahir i d’avui” (Retazos de ayer y de hoy) de El Centro de Documentación y Museo Textil de Terrassa (CDMT). La muestra recoge obras pertenecientes al fondo del propio museo de épocas y culturas lejanas como fragmentos del conjunto de indumentaria litúrgica "El Terno de San Valero" del siglo XVIII y también objetos que ofrecen una mirada retrospectiva a la historia industrial textil catalana con un énfasis especial en el modernismo. 

Destaca un maravilloso vestido de otomán de seda del siglo XVIII, un traje precioso en jacquard de seda y un cuerpo de tul negro firmado por el mismísimo Charles Frederick Worth, considerado el padre de la alta costura. Éstas son algunas de las piezas interesantes que podemos ver.

Cristobal Balenciaga was born in this house

Cristóbal Balenciaga Eizaguirre (Getaria, 1895 – Jávea, Alicante 1972), one of the most important couturiers of the twentieth century, was born in Getaria, a beautiful fishing village near San Sebastian, Spain, on January 21st 1985, at five in the afternoon at 10 Zacayo Street, known today as Aldamar. That’s what claims the Museum of the famous couturier, although I have to say that the plaque –above these lines- is located next to number twelve. Born in a humble family, his father, José Balenciaga Basurto, was a sailor and the mayor of Getaria and his mother, Martina Eizaguirre Embil, was a dressmaker and she taught cutting and tailoring in her own home. 

Cristóbal Balenciaga Eizaguirre (Getaria, 1895 – Jávea, Alicante 1972), uno de los modistos más importantes del siglo XX, nació en Getaria, un bonito pueblo pesquero del País Vasco, a las cinco de la tarde del 21 de enero de 1985, en el número diez de la calle Zacayo, hoy llamada Aldamar. Así lo asegura el Museo del célebre modisto, aunque hay que decir que la placa –sobre estas líneas- está situada justo al lado del número doce. De familila humilde, su padre, José Balenciaga Basurto, era marinero y alcalde de Getaria y su madre, Martina Eizaguirre Embil, trabajaba como modista y enseñaba corte y confección en su propia casa.
