Empowering women through a sustainable garment industry

The current fashion industry employs mostly women in emerging markets. Hundreds of them work in crowded spaces with poor working conditions and with low wages. Not only they do not generally get a fair living wage, but they do not also have the same opportunities as men. Through fashion we can help change this situation and empower these vulnerable women who make garments for Western retailers, because they are actually the ones who produce our clothes. 

EL EMPODERAMIENTO DE LA MUJER A TRAVÉS DE UNA INDUSTRIA DE LA MODA SOSTENIBLE. La industria de la moda actual emplea principalmente a mujeres en los mercados emergentes. Cientos de ellas trabajan en espacios abarrotados en condiciones de trabajo precarias y con salarios bajos. En general, no consiguen un salario digno para vivir y tampoco tienen las mismas oportunidades que los hombres. A través de la moda podemos ayudar a cambiar esta situación y fortalecer a estas mujeres vulnerables que confeccionan la ropa para retailers de Occidente, porque en realidad son ellas quiénes producen nuestras prendas.

Upcoming film release: 'The True Cost' of Fast Fashion

"This is a story about clothing. It’s about the clothes we wear, the people who make them, and the impact the industry is having on our world."

Spotted at Dolce & Gabbana autumn/winter 2015: elegant loose chignons decorated with crystal and gilded clips or brooches, and with sparkling vintage-inspired headbands. "Pearls, diamonds, gold hair pieces—it’s the idea of those fifties brooches you’d find in your mother’s jewel box,” says hairstylist Guido Palau, according to Vogue. The result is a pretty and feminine look, don't you think?

Los vimos en el desfile otoño/invierno 2015 de Dolce & Gabbana: elegantes moños decorados con clips o broches dorados e incrustaciones de cristal, y con brillantes diademas de inspiración vintage. "Perlas, diamantes, doradas piezas para el pelo —es la idea de esos broches de los años cincuenta que encontrarías en el joyero de tu madre", explica el conocido estilista Guido Palau, según Vogue US. El resultado es un look muy femenino, ¿no os parece?

Fashion Inspiration: 70s vibe

This spring the aesthetics of the '70s returns. The fashion industry has made this very clear with many designs on the runway and fashion editorials inspired by this decade. The silhouette is longer, clothing becomes lighter and the trousers, flares, demand major importance. The seventies must-haves for my closet: a blouse, a cross-body bag with fringe and a bandana to wear around the neck.

Esta primavera vuelve la estética de los años setenta. La industria de la moda nos lo ha dejado bien claro con un gran número de propuestas sobre la pasarela y de editoriales de moda inspirados en esta década. La silueta se alarga, los diseños se vuelven ligeros y el pantalón, que se acampana, reclama todo el protagonismo. En la lista de los imprescindibles 'seventies' de mi armario: una blusa, un bolso bandolera con flecos y una bandana para llevar alrededor del cuello.

BFFs Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift star the front cover we loved most this month: US Vogue's. We think it's fresh and we like that the magazine celebrates friendship, because indeed, life is better with friends. Photographed by Mikael Jansson, both wear matching ensembles and, beyond this cover, they are the protagonists of a fun video titled Who's The Best Best Friend? and of a beautiful editorial (which reminds us of Net-A-Porter's The Roadtrip editorial starring Alexa Chung and Poppy Delevingne). Our second favourite cover: Harper's Bazaar Australia with Miranda Kerr, photographed by Kai Z Feng. She looks stunning and different, and the so 70s styling works well. Next, see the covers that made it to our March list. Which one is your favourite?

Es fresca y nos gusta que la revista celebre la amistad, porque sin duda, la vida es mejor con amigos/as. Fotografiadas por Mikael Jansson, llevan coloridas piezas a conjunto. Más allá de la portada, son las protagonistas  de un vídeo divertido titulado: ¿Quién es la mejor mejor amiga? y de un bonito editorial (que nos recuerda a Alexa Chung y Poppy Delevingne en el editorial The Roadtrip editorial de Net-A-Porter).
